The number of people producing food in the USA has not changed in 250 years.

That's roughly 3 million people. With a population of about that many in 1776, that's around 95% of people producing food. But today, with a population of 350 million, that's less than 2% of people producing food for themselves, their families, and 100 times more people than two centuries ago. That means larger farms and ranches and more efficient food production in general. 

 

It also means that almost everybody today eats food produced by someone they will never meet, from animals and land they will never see. In our modern food system, trust no longer comes from knowing your neighbor. It has to come from verification, which is right where we operate: in closing the growing distance between producers and consumers.
